Why ripple? How it works ripple home

OV FAQ

(Our Very Frequently Asked Questions)

What is this all about?

It's about saving the world one click at a time.

Okay right, but how does it work?

It's simple. When you click on a give button you will be shown some advertisements. We pass the revenue from these advertisements onto your chosen charity. Set us as your homepage and click away. It's easier than zoning out during American Idol. Seriously.

So how much of your money do you give to charity?

All of it.

No, seriously, how much?

100%. Every cent. Full stop. Our donations are all authenticated by the charities.

How much money does one click give?

It ranges from 1c to 20c. It doesn't sound like much but it adds up quickly!

And what about ripple search? How does that work?

Every time you conduct a search from the ripple homepage or the ripple toolbar (update coming soon), our search sponsor pays a small amount to ripple. ripple passes this onto our charities to help them fight poverty.

Just remember, only searches from the ripple homepage or toolbar make money for charity. Repeat searches you do from the results pages won't. That's because Google provides the results page, and we can't place our search sponsor on there!

If you're not making any money for yourself what motivated you to make this site?

Well here are a few facts that speak for themselves:

If we can, we should all be doing something about poverty.

So how much money do you give to charities all up?

Well, this is where you come in. If we have a community of 100, 000 users who visit 3 times a week we could raise over $1.5 million a year. If we had as many members as MySpace we would raise over $2 billion dollars a year. We pee our pants a little just thinking about it.

Why is it called ripple?

Three reasons really.

1The ripple from every click flows through the lives of the people we help

The ripple charities are about making long term and sustainable change, rather than just helping people get from day to day. They enable people to climb out of poverty by providing them with the tools to make a difference in their own lives. A single click may provide education, water, sanitation or even allow someone to start a business. The impact of this assistance flows out through other aspects of that individual's life and eventually allows them to help others.

2We hope a ripple will spread through the web

We think ripple is a pretty good idea. We know that it will help others. We hope you agree and tell your friends about us. Your friends will tell their friends, who will tell their friends who will tell their Grandmas who will post a link on their blog so that their readers will visit and tell their friends, who will..and on and on.

If you get behind this idea and bring along one, two or three more people then the impact of ripple will grow and grow until we generate a wave of change.

3Finally, ripple.org sounds a lot better than pleaseclickhereandgivetocharity.org  don't you think?

Do you really deliver 2 days of education or 6 days of access to water every time someone clicks?

The click handles are not directly linked to actions in the field. Instead, they are indications of the kind of benefit which is delivered by the revenue raised by each click. To learn more about how we calculate the click handles, click here.

I really like your design, who did your web development?
